THANE: Ghanashyam Mestry, 35, one of the individuals injured in the explosion at Rare Pharma Company in Badlapur, passed away from his injuries on Tuesday night. The explosion occurred at approximately 4:15 am on Monday in a reactor that produces benzole, a chemical used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical tablets, at the factory situated in Manekewadi MIDC, Badlapur.
The deceased was originally from Sindhudurg. His maternal aunt, Laxmi Mestry, said, “Although Ghanashyam was the youngest, he provided financial and other support to his brothers' families and his parents. His wife requires surgery for a severe leg injury, which complicates her ability to attend his last rites.”
The Badlapur police have yet to arrest or question the company's owners or take their statements. The directors of the company are Rajendra Pawar, Pramila Pawar, and Chandrasen Shinde.
Senior Police Inspector Shubhda Shitole stated that an investigation has commenced, and the next steps will be determined following the preliminary inquiry. In the meantime, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board for the Ambernath-Badlapur region has instructed the company to halt all production until the Industrial Safety and Health authorities complete their inquiry and provide clearance for resuming work.
